I missed an important holiday this year

From the magazine, Adbusters, campaign page:

Unconscious, bruised and lying over a $29 DVD player, paramedics finally reached Patricia VanLester. Hundreds of shoppers at the Wal-Mart hadn't stopped shopping to help. "They walked over her like a herd of elephants," said her sister, Linda. "All they cared about was their stupid DVD player."

Why do we do people buy each other Christmas presents? I know I like to give and receive gifts, but how much is enough? Certainly if someone was crushed in a shopping center by people crazy about low prices, that is too much.

The Christmas season is fun. It is a great time for everyone. But, isn't it also about money and business these days?

Adbusters propsed a new holiday, "Buy Nothing Day". It is set for the day after Thanksgiving every year. That day is traditionally the biggest shopping day of the year, and the start of the Chrsitmas season. Read their page to find out about what happened to Patricia and learn more about BND.

How do you celebrate? Well, just buy nothing. It's that easy. Could you do it?

The average North American consumes five times more than a Mexican, ten times more than a Chinese person, and thirty times more than a person from India.
You can find this and more on the Adbusters website.

I always think Valentine and Christmas days are made for some strategies.
Valentine's for chocolate or sweet companies
Christmas for big department stores and etc...
and so do jewery shops.
they tell us the messages such as
'give love for lovers!'
or 'have special days with love present!'.
but sometimes sales are took place because of those reasons.
frankly speaking, I love this season with no reasons.
I usually expect something happen.
I hope this year also have some happy come!

Me too. The time we get to spend with friends or family members is the real reason to enjoy the holiday.
