Do you know what a "trailer" is?

Sometimes trailer means a special kind of cart or wagon that is attached to the back of a truck. The much more interesting kind of trailer is a movie trailer.

Movie trailers are also called "previews". They are short ads that appear in theaters before the main movie starts. You can see one or two minutes of a new movie to decide if you want to watch it.

English-trailers.com is a website that Andrew Johnson at Ritsumeikan University made. He's an experienced computer programmer, so it looks pretty cool. It might be fun. Try it if you like movies.

It is a good idea to read the instructions before you try to use the site. You can:

  • read about the movie in the "Summary"
  • try a listening exercise by clicking "Cloze"
  • read the "Script"
  • and try a "Quiz" to see what you learned.

I liked the site when you showed it to me in Nagoya. I think my students liked it too. I hope so anyway. My wife definitely liked "A Bug's Life". She wondered how you can use the trailers?

I often watch movies.
But most of those are Japanese ones.
I think this "trailer" will make me get interest in Western movies!

I really like Beat Takeshi's movies. I just saw "Zatoichi" recently. Ut was really cool- especially the dancing. I want to get "Dolls" next time I go to Tsutaya.

You must know more about Japanese movie than I!!
Because I have never watched Takeshi's movies.

I will try Takeshi's one.

My favorite Japanese movie director is 'Shunji Iwai.'

I think I know his name, but I'm not sure. Did he do a movie about dragonfish or something? I forget.

 I like movies too, and I think Takeshi Kitano is genius. I have never imagined of making a film. It seems very difficult job. Watching many movies,especially American movies, I wanna learn many things.

i have never seen yet however my mom watched and told me that it was so funny and very creative movie.  likeweise it is based on true story so i hope i will have fun time watching this movie

 I really enjoyed this website.  I can learn English by watching movies and I think this is good practice for listening!! I would like to try many times.

I like to watch movies. But I always hesitate to watch ones because I doubt whether they are interesting or not. So I do not watch movies very often.  However, this movie trailer will give me more opportunity to watch them.
