OK. You've got the basics of using B5. Now let's figure out what that HTML stuff is. What does it stand for? Hyper Text Mark-up Language. What does that mean? Well, it means that HTML is what tells Internet Explorer how your writing should look on the screen.
- Do you want tobe able to do this?
- Probably not, but...
- How about adding a link to yourself?
- Or, lists like this?
That is what HTML lets you do. We'll start small.

| HTML is little bits of text called tags. Some tags work alone, but most work in pairs. Tags always have angle brackets around them. Angle brackets look like this < > .
Let's start with the easiest ones. They work alone.
The paragraph tag looks like this: <p>.
Put it at the end of a paragraph, or anywhere you want to skip two lines.
The break tag looks like this: <br>.
Put it any where you would usually hit the "Enter" key when you type. It moves down to the next line.
The "space bar" is very special in HTML. One space or a hundred, it is all the same to html. You can put in many spaces, hit the "Enter" key or anything else. HTML only notices the tags.
To make HTML work in any comment, diary, or story, do two things: - Change the menu from "Plain Text" to "HTML formatted"
- Use the "Preview" button to see if your message looks good before you "Post" it.
I hope you have fun making your comments and diaries look cooler. Experiment. Remember, it's only a website! |
